It takes HANDS to build a HOUSE, but only Hearts can build a HOME.

Hello and happy fall to all of the faithful blog readers! It has been a hectic past couple of months here at Project Homecoming working diligently to find the perfect home buyers for our first batch of beautiful new construction homes in Filmore Gardens!

On the 10th anniversary of Katrina, Project Homecoming broke ground on 5 homes in the Filmore Gardens neighborhood of Gentilly, right behind the London Avenue Canal Levee breech.

On August 9th, 2005 at approximately 9:30 am, two 30 foot long sections of the London Street concrete flood wall at the 4900 block of Warrington Drive failed. The storm surge quickly devastated the thriving Gentilly neighborhood, killing hundreds and resulting in millions of dollars worth of property damage.

Project Homecoming was able to secure 12 lots in this neighborhood dedicated to new construction homes available to low/moderate income first time home buyers. We are excited to say that the neighborhood is starting to look amazing and all five of our houses are now homes!

We are excited to continue helping this beautiful neighborhood become the vibrant hub it once was. By the spring, 3 more new construction houses will be ready to be homes!
