A week long community in action
Program participants will cook and eat together, share chore duties, build a home or community project, and participate in compelling programming each night. This will be a challenging weeks both physically and emotionally for these young folks. Our program isn’t just a week of work, it’s a life changing experience.
Your group will have an opportunity to prepare for their week of service through a worship service. There will also be a guest speaker discussing their relationship with God and Hurricane Katrina.
The group will explore our special city to witness our cultural traditions. Alternatively, you can use this as free time for other activities.
Learn more about wetland conservation. Take a guided tour of Bayou Savauge.
Share a meal with worksite managers, staff and homeowners during Neighbor Night at the Volunteer facilities. Afterwards, end the evening with reflection by using our prayer stations.
Your last evening at Project Homecoming is celebrated with a short vespers service.
Nuts and Bolts
All programming is planned ahead of time so all you have to do is show up ready to work. Youth will be assigned work sites where they will volunteer rebuilding a home or working on a community project. All meals, as well as beds and showers, will be provided by Project Homecoming. Travel to New Orleans and transportation to and from the work sites is not included.
You will need your own transportation. We also ask for a 4:1 youth to adult ratio. The cost of the program is $325 per person per week.
Let us guide you in work and faith
Our program staff are uniquely trained to guide your group through a week of fellowship and intentional community. We have prepared selected devotionals, worship material, and programming that help participants reflect on their week of service in New Orleans. They will form a bond with our staff as role models who demonstrate their faith through service.
Our worksite managers provide all the training and supervision necessary to keep your group safe and productive. This isn’t just pulling weeds and painting – we put them to work on a real construction site with an opportunity to build a home and improve a community.
This is just what our youth need, let's get started...
