2011-2012 AmeriCorps Positions
Project Homecoming has several positions open for candidates wishing to serve our rebuilding and recovery initiative in the Greater New Orleans area.
Successful applicants will be working with Project Homecoming staff as Americorps members to supervise volunteer work crews in rebuilding hurricane-damaged homes, constructing new affordable homes, and engaging in community development initiatives. Our clients are low- and very low-income, disabled, senior citizens and/or disabled persons who have limited resources to rebuild on their own. Americorps members will commit themselves to facilitating a culture of care in targeted communities through: safe, durable, affordable, and environmentally sensitive construction; community driven partnerships; service and fellowship.
These Americorps positions are for 11 months beginning September 1, 2011.
Requirements: Corps members must be at least 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or GED, and no felonies.
Benefits: We offer a living stipend of $1,100 per month as well as an additional $400 a month housing stipend. Americorps members may also be eligible for up to $200 a month in food stamp assistance. Members will receive an education award of $5,350 upon completion of service. This money can be used to pay off existing student loans or for future education. Americorps members also receive health insurance, child care reimbursement, student loan forbearance, extensive training, and networking opportunities.

JOB DESCRIPTIONS:
Worksite Managers:
Members in this position will work under the supervision of a Construction Manager. Worksite managers directly train and supervise weekly volunteers for rebuilding hurricane-damaged homes and construction of new for-sale housing, for low income households in distressed neighborhoods. Specific responsibilities include: 1) constructing houses; 2) Assisting in the acquisition, transport and delivery of materials and equipment needed at work sites; 3) Working with homeowners as their houses are rebuilt; and 4) Being an ambassador for Project Homecoming and its community development work.
Warehouse Manager:
This position will work under the supervision of the Operations Director to organize, track and distribute the tools, vehicles and materials kept in Project Homecoming’s warehouse facility for use in the rebuilding of storm damaged homes and the building of new homes. Responsibilities include: 1) Assisting with warehouse management; 2) Coordinating the maintenance and repair of Project Homecoming’s tools and vehicles; 2) Coordinating the procurement and distribution of materials; 3) Removing construction debris from jobsites without trash containers; and 4). Managing volunteers on worksites as needed.
AmeriCorps Part Time Volunteer Village Manager
Job Description: The successful applicant will work under the supervision of Project Homecoming’s Volunteer Coordinator as an Americorps member. He or she will manage the facilities and operations of Olive Tree Volunteer Village, which houses the weekly volunteers who provide a majority of the labor for the rebuilding of storm-damaged homes and the building of new homes. Responsibilities include: 1) Provide orientation to volunteers upon arrival to the village; 2) Assign volunteers to daily chores; 3) Procure food and materials needed for the operation of the village; 4) Coordinate and facilitate informational morning and evening programming for weekly volunteers; 5) Track the hours and placement of volunteers building and rebuilding homes; and 6) Oversee weekly evaluations from volunteers and maintain volunteer contact information.
